Building Longterm Resilience

THE POWER OF UNRESTRICTED GIVING

Hello IRSSS donor community,

I’m writing today to introduce myself and to extend a heartfelt thank you from the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) for your support. My name is Gilberto Algar-Faria, and I recently joined IRSSS as the Development Manager. Alongside IRSSS’s Development Coordinator, April Helm, I work to ensure that the organization has the financial resources it needs to continue its vital work.

Over the last few years, IRSSS has received a huge increase public attention. At the same time, demand for our services has skyrocketed. While we receive some of our revenue in the form of government funding, we have made the decision to move away from a heavy reliance on this as these grants tend to be short-term, time-restricted and program-specific. They also come with a heavy reporting burden; our goal is to ensure that the organization can rely on revenue, that is sustainable, flexible, and unrestricted.

It is important to us that you continue to walk with us on our journey and have full access to information about your giving and the ability to make changes to this at any time.

To this end, those who give to us through our giving platform (Blackbaud) will shortly be receiving an email inviting you to set up a donor account using the email address you provided when you last donated to us. If you give to IRSSS via another platform and would like to discuss your giving to our organization, please email us.

Again, it is my honour to be a part of this healing journey, and I welcome your feedback: please reach out to our team any time if you have any questions at all about IRSSS’s work and how we are making good use of your generous donations. You can contact the Development team at donate@irsss.ca, or if you would like to speak with me directly about any aspects of your charitable giving, I’d be thrilled have a conversation with you – my direct email address and phone number are available below.

Thank you once again for your vital support for residential school Survivors, their families and communities.

With gratitude,

Gilberto Algar-Faria (he/him/his)
